Although 2020 has consisted of many cancelled or postponed concerts and tours, COVID-19 hasn't stopped musicians from releasing their music. Our favorite music artists putting out new singles and albums is one of the few exciting things in the entertainment business that was not stopped or delayed by the virus. While we are still waiting for Season 2 of Euphoria to come out among other shows because of delayed shooting, plenty of new music from our favorite artists have come out, like Positions by Ariana Grande, Tickets To My Downfall by Machine Gun Kelly, and Midnight Sky by Miley Cyrus, that can at least put us in a good mood in this crazy and uncertain time.
My current favorite songs that put me in a good mood are:
1. Take Me Home for Christmas- Dan + Shay
Yell at me all you want, but I get in the Christmas mood the day right after Halloween, sorry (still love Thanksgiving). One of my favorite country duos, Dan + Shay, recently released a new Christmas song, and it is so good. Whenever it comes on, I put it on full volume and have a concert of 1 in my car. Christmas music makes me happy so I will continue to play it early.
2. Levitating- Dua Lipa ft. DaBaby
You can always count on Dua Lipa to put out a killer-up-beat-single every now and then, and Levitating is that. This song gets me so pumped, and I always have it on full blast, resisting the urge to dance while driving. I remember the first time I listened to her music was in the one scene of Baywatch, with Zac Efron, with the song No Lie, and that is when the obsession began.
3. Bitter- Fletcher (with Kito)
I have heard this song on TikTok a million times before I actually decided that I was obsessed with it and needed to download it ASAP. You know when you listen to a song and it's whatever and then the next day, you are like OMG this is a great song. That is exactly what happened with this song, and now I can't stop listening to it.
4. Dreams- Fleetwood Mac
Here's another TikTok song for you, but in my defense, I have been obsessing over it since it aired on Glee, performed by Matthew Morrison and Kristen Chenoweth. Although this song did not come out during the pandemic, it regained popularity then from a viral TikTok post, and I can always count on it to put me in a good mood.
5. If You're Too Shy (Let Me Know)- The 1975
I know I am way behind on the The 1975 music train, I'm sorry. They are so good, and I only started listening to them these past couple months, after I first heard this song in a Dairy Queen parking lot, enjoying some ice cream. Their songs have a good beat that you simply can't resist from blasting to get the full experience.
Music has definitely saved us from complete torture in 2020 and I'm so grateful for it. TikTok would not have been as popular as it is, without good music to make dances to. Still, it is sad to think about all the concerts and festivals that have been cancelled or postponed, due to COVID-19. While some artists have been able to put together a drive-in concert, virtual or in-person, it is simply not the same, and who knows how many times these tours will have to get postponed. So many people have been eager and counting down the days until their concert just for it to not happen. I personally had 3 concerts coming up that are sadly rescheduled for 2021, but most likely towards the end of that year or later.
My first two concerts were to see The Driver Era with my friends, one in Philadelphia and the other in New York City, in March. They are both now rescheduled for January of 2021,but it is not looking good so far, especially in these small, crowded general admission venues.
My third concert (festival) was the 2020 Barefoot Country Music Fest. I was SO excited for this festival in Wildwood this Summer in June, considering it was my first country concert ever since I started liking the genre, so I was so sad when it was postponed until June 2021. Some headliners included Carrie Underwood, Blake Shelton, and Dan + Shay. I decided to keep my ticket instead of a refund even though it is so far away because I am really excited, and with keeping your ticket, you get a credit to buy food and drinks at the festival.
Although the concerts are far away, I am trying to stay positive. At least now I have something to look forward to....eventually.
Just remember, happier days are coming :)
Xoxo,
Steph
