Cape May is a hidden gem!
I had always visited the town when vacationing in Wildwood, to shop at the Washington Street Mall, but I never actually stayed there and ventured in the town. After my recent weekend there at the end of July, I am already planning on going back as soon as I can.
The town of Cape May is way bigger than I thought, and there is so many fun things to do there. I stayed in the cutest AirBnB cottage. It slept 6 people comfortably and was the perfect size for me and my friends. It was also very close to everything which was great. The backyard had the cutest patio to hang out in and enjoy the day. Luckily, we had great weather all weekend long.
While we weren't enjoying the coziness of the cottage, we ventured out in the town and had so much fun at the cutest places...like...
1. Harpoons on The Bay
If you’re looking for a yummy restaurant with a great view in Cape May, Harpoons on The Bay is the restaurant to go to. Although they don’t take reservations and the wait is long, the beach view (especially during sunset) and the outside bar while waiting, is very enjoyable. While waiting for our table, we enjoyed their signature rum buckets by the bar. Although their menu was somewhat limited, all the food we got was so good. A memory I won’t forget from this restaurant is when the whole crowd collectively cheered when the sun officially set over the water. The sunset was beautiful!
2. Willow Creek Winery
Willow Creek Winery is probably one of my favorite wineries so far. The vineyard was absolutely beautiful- bright green vines, colorful flowers, a pleasant outdoor dining area, and grand indoor dining area. The food selection was very diverse and yummy and the drinks were amazing. I got the Sweet Chile Chicken Salad. The best thing they had on the menu personally is their two daily special sangrias…with the choice to add in ALCOHOLIC FROZEN DOLE WHIP. I got the white sangria with the pineapple dole whip and I was in love. They also had a cherry dole whip that my friends enjoyed. I already cannot wait to go back and have it again!
3. The Mad Batter
The Mad Batter was a walk away from The Washington Street Mall, perfect to stroll while we waited for our table. BUT…it was worth the wait. Their menu had a pretty big selection and everything we got was very good, especially the loaded home fries. They also had a big drink selection, including a Cold Brew Martini that I was dying to try but I didn’t. I will definitely be ordering that drink next time I visit!
4. Peace Pie
Although I didn’t get to visit Peace Pies, many people suggested going there so it must be good. They have three other locations on the East coast, including in Florida, South Carolina, and Ventor, NJ. While you may think they sell pies, they don't. Instead, starting in 2010, the company started based off some extra pie filling and crust for Thanksgiving. Ever since then, the Peace Pies company has been selling ice cream sandwiches on shortbread cookies with a layer of pie filling. They sell the pies, also in square form, with flavors like Chocolate Covered Strawberry Brownie, Chocolate Mint Brownie, Chocolate Squared, and Cookie Dough Squared. Even typing this, I am getting hungry. I am totally making time to try out this food place next time I'm in Cape May.
5. Coffee Tyme
While waiting for our table at The Mad Batter, we took a walk to get coffee and Coffee Tyme did the trick. As soon as we walked in the door, it smelled so good. There is a huge menu with all their coffee specialties. It was very hard to decide which flavors to try, but I ended up deciding on the banana, chocolate, and hazlenut iced coffee with almond milk. If you love trying new coffee shops, I highly suggest visiting Coffee Tyme.
If you have any other places in Cape May that I should check out, I would love to know so that I can add it to my itinerary next trip!
