Feeling Hungry?

Here are some healthy(ish) snacks/meals that I have made this quarantine while trying to resist all the unhealthy food in my kitchen!

1. Hummus Dip

Hummus dip is the perfect delicious snack!

There is a variety of things to dip in it, like pretzel thins, pita bread, pita chips, carrots, celery, crackers, and more.

You can even have it as a light lunch paired with a side like nuts, fruit, granola, or veggies, or spread on a pita with veggies, for a nice wrap.

With chickpeas and a few other spices and ingredients, you can make a yummy batch of hummus to last you a week or so.

2. Guacamole and Chips

If you couldn't tell already, I really like dips!

Guacamole is great, especially if you're looking to use up avocados before they go bad. (Even though I just learned you can freeze them)

A lot of the ingredients are essential things that you prob already have in the kitchen including salt, pepper, garlic, and onion.

Like hummus, you have choices of what to dip in your guac, like chips or veggies.

It won't last as long as hummus but a couple of tips to keep it fresh include leaving the pit in, adding lemon/lime juice, and covering it tightly.

3. Sweet and Salty Almonds

This has been my go-to snack recently...I'm actually eating them right now as I type this.

I take a handful of salted almonds and mix them with chocolate chunks.

It is perfect when I have cravings for something salty then sweet!

If you are allergic to almonds, you can try alternatives like a different nut, granola, or fruit with chia seeds.

I also enjoy having a banana with peanut butter, chia seeds, and chocolate chips sprinkled on top.

Chia seeds are a great addition to fruit and smoothies because they expand in your stomach and make you feel full for longer!

4. Toast with Veggie Cream Cheese

Who doesn't love bread? There is no way I could cut it out of my diet.

It's all about balance. While I do love an occasional everything bagel with cream cheese, substituting it for a slice of multi-grain bread is just as good.

There are also a ton of sweet and savory cream cheese's to choose from at the store, like veggie, scallion, jalapeno, blueberry, brown sugar cinnamon, strawberry, and more.

If you are having this as a breakfast or lunch, you can pair it with some fruit or veggies.

5. Chef's Salad

A chef's salad is a perfect lunch you can put together with ingredients you have in your fridge.

Hopefully you have some type of green base to get started, like romaine lettuce, iceberg lettuce, or spinach.

Next, you can add anything that seems right that you have in your fridge and don't want to go to waste, like veggies, cheese, and cold cuts.

Don't forget about the dressing!

6. "Whatever" Toast

Whether it is eggs, bacon, taylor ham, avocado, or peanut butter, toast is a perfect light breakfast or lunch that is sure to be delicious.

Here are some of my fave toast toppings!

  1. 1. Egg (Scrambled or Sunny-side Up) with taylor ham or bacon. You can add salt, pepper, avocado, and/or hot sauce for more flavor

2. Mashed Avocado with salt, pepper, hot sauce, and sesame seeds

3. Peanut butter or almond butter with a sprinkle of honey and/or chocolate chips

YUM!

7. Oatmeal

Oatmeal is the perfect meal to fill you up and use some ingredients you have lying around.

Just make oatmeal like you usually would and get creative with your toppings!

You can add any fruit you have in your kitchen before they go bad, granola, chia sides, peanut/almond butter, or honey.

Just make sure you don't overload on toppings!

But don't forget to support businesses as well!

8.Playa Bowls

Playa Bowls is a perfectly healthy meal...but you shouldn't rely on it too much.

While the bowl is filled with healthy ingredients, it can add up to a lot of calories.

Having it once in a while is fine and there are so many options to switch it up.

The last time I had Playa I ordered the wrong bowl and it came with bee pollen on top...but it was good!

I never would have thought to try this bowl before!

9. CAVA

CAVA is a fairly new fast-food chain restaurant that has been popping up everywhere. I describe it as similar to Chipotle, but Mediterranean style.

You can choose between a pita or bowl and either greens and grains or just one or the other, with many toppings and dips choices.

They also have some unique drink options like jasmine tea and pineapple apple mint juice.

CAVA is quite filling so I usually "try" to eat half and save the rest for another meal. I say "try" because sometimes I can't resist to eat it all!

10. Taco Bell

TOTALLY JOKING!

But of course there's always room for a cheat day...or two.

You have to treat yourself every now and then.

Don't torture yourself.

Taco Bell is my favorite fast food so I do get it every now and then, but I make sure to limit myself.

I've also been limiting my alcohol intake recently. The calories just aren't worth it, but I do enjoy a nice drink every now and then!

Just some last notes!

  • You probably see a lot of coffee and water in all these pictures

  • Although it may seem like a lot of coffee, I do try to limit myself to one cup a day

  • I usually add almond milk and caramel syrup to my coffee...unless I'm trying the trendy whipped coffee

  • Regarding water, I am trying to drink more

  • Water helps to clear your skin, aid digestion, and has many other positive effects on the body

  • It is recommended to drink 4 water bottles, or 1/2 a gallon per day, before/during/after meals

......

Happy Eating!

Xoxo,

Steph
