If you're looking for a yummy place to eat, and you live anywhere near North Jersey, Hoboken is worth the drive. It has been a couple months since I've been in one of my favorite towns, and I am dreaming about getting back there soon. There are so many cute spots to eat and drink at, and I can stare at the view of New York City by the water all day long. A summer day well spent is a day in Hoboken. Some of my favorite restaurants are in Hoboken, and I figured I would share, especially since the Spring and warm weather is approaching.
The Brass Rail
The Brass Rail, in downtown Hoboken, NEVER disappoints. My friends and I have gone a couple times now to this modern but classic restaurant, with its' 1900's elegance, and it just keeps getting better and better. The Brass Rail has two floors, with a full bar, and outdoor seating for the warmer weather. They take reservations which is great, especially for busy brunch hours. I've of course gone to their brunch, with a bottomless drink and the choice of two courses. My favorite part of their brunch is their Fluffy Japanese Pancakes that came in the cutest Chinese takeout container with chopsticks. For the bottomless drink, you have the choice of a Mimosa, Sangria, or Bloody Mary. Most recently, I went for dinner and got Sangria and their Truffle Meatballs & Gnocchi. It was so delicious, with pancetta, mushrooms, and sherry cream, and now one of my top restaurant dishes ever. I am dying to go back!
The Elysian Cafe
Another Hoboken favorite of mine is The Elysian Cafe. Although I have never been inside the restaurant (thanks to COVID), their outdoor seating is so pretty, with a ton of greenery. Last time I went, I spent so much time deciding what I wanted to order from their French Bistro-styled menu because everything just sounded so good. I ended up getting the Chicken Club sandwich, which could never go wrong, and it was so good, and a good portion. The Elysian Cafe is also the oldest continually operated bar/restaurant in Hoboken, and I'm looking forward to going back and trying something else on the menu.
Pier 13- Food Trucks
If you ever want to switch it up from going to a sit-down restaurant, you should try Pier 13 right on the water. Although they don't serve food themselves, besides their drinks, they have food trucks located just outside the pier that you can go and grab food to bring in. The food trucks change all the time so be sure to check their website and/or Instagram for the most updated food trucks schedule before heading over. They usually have 3-4 different trucks there a day so it's nice to have different options, or if you want to share. The Pier has been closed for the season, but is hopefully opening back up in a couple months. A little bit of advice, if you're going early or late summer, bring a jacket because it can get very windy. I know I will be going back as soon as they open!
Basile's Pizza
You can never go wrong with pizza, and one of the best pizza places in Hoboken is Basile's Pizza (rated an 8.1 by Barstool Sports). Something about Basile's Pizza is so good- it's pretty thin, the perfect crispiness, and a good size. I haven't tried a ton of other things on their menu, but I am sure it is just as good. Some of the best times I've had in Hoboken included grabbing one of their cheese pies and setting up a small picnic at Pier A Park. Hanging with some friends, enjoying the city view, and having some yummy pizza sounds like a perfect day to me, and I plan on spending more days doing exactly this in the Summer!
Halifax
Hoboken has a ton of amazing places for brunch, but one of my favorites has to be Halifax. Although it's on the more pricier side, the food and drinks are so worth it. The brunch comes with bottomless mimosas (technically one bottle of sparkling wine per person with juice options) and several small bite platters to share with the table that fill you up very quickly because it's so good. Some of these dishes include Challah French Toast, BBQ Chicken Wings, Beef Sliders, Yogurt Parfait, and Deviled Eggs. Their menu features North-Eastern farm and coastal cuisine, and you can tell that put much emphasis on local and sustainable ingredients, which I love, and I am excited to go back for brunch.
.....And when in Hoboken, you can't go wrong with some Insomnia cookies, Ben & Jerry's......or a a quick bar hop to end the night....whatever you're in the mood for, Hoboken has got you covered!
Enjoy!
Xoxo,
Steph
