(Realistic) New Years Resolutions✨

Every year when the clock strikes 12:00am on December 31 and the new year rings in, we all set some new resolutions and goals. Maybe some people are able to go through with all their goals, but...most don't, and that is completely fine. It is so hard to stick with them, especially when they are some of the most common, far-fetched resolutions almost everyone has each year, like eating better, working out, or getting a 4.0 GPA. While these goals are great to have, it is hard to stick to them when you have a busy schedule and just want to relax some days.

Below are a couple new years resolutions that are way more realistic and great for you to start in 2021. While they may not seem like big, extravagant goals, when put together, they can ensure a happy and healthy year!

1. Have a Schedule

Having an organized schedule for your days is so helpful to stay busy and on top of things. Using apps like Google Calendar or iCalendar are so convenient and easy to use and help you keep track of everything you have going on. Whenever something is planned or you think of something you want or need to do, just add it to your calendar, set an alert, and you'll never forget. You can add plans, errands, work/study time, etc., and you won't have an excuse that you forgot.

Also, once you get used to this schedule, it will feel like the new normal and you will be more productive. Of course if things come up and you don't have time to go for a run or do that online course certificate, it's okay. You need to make sure you listen to your body and relax when you need to. This brings me to my next resolution.

2. Don’t Forget Your Self-Care

It is okay if you take a day to relax. It is okay if you take the day to do absolutely nothing. 2020 has been a whirlwind, and we all deserve to take the time to de-stress and start fresh. Self-care for one person might be a bubble bath or a shopping spree while to another it might be journaling or reading a book all day...or all of the above. Whatever it is you like to do to relax, do it. We all need to take care of ourselves and others around us at this time. Mental health is so important, and self- care can totally help!

3. Find A Hobby

Although this sounds cliche...find a hobby. If you find yourself having a lot of free time on your hands that you don't want to waste, find something that you are or can be passionate about. Through my internship...and the stay at home pandemic...I have found that blogging has kept me happy...and busy. Of course some days I am just not in the mood to write, but other days I am, and I know that my time isn't going to waste. Many people have started new hobbies and small businesses this year, and it is so great to see all their success. The new year is a great time to see what you are passionate about, and just go for it. You never know what will happen!

4. Intuitive Eating & Working Out

Every year, we tell ourselves we are going to eat better and work out 4-5 times a week. Of course you start out good, but eventually that drive fades away. Usually, it is because you get really busy or sick/injured, and you just lose that motivation....and that is completely okay. You still tried and did the best you can, and you will get back into it soon. I can't count how many times I have fallen in and out of this motivation, but I am proud of my efforts either way. I am currently on a running kick, (on my treadmill in my garage) but we will see how long it lasts.

I am also trying to eat better and hydrate....AGAIN! I also struggle with this, as I know many other people do too, and it is so hard. Just the fact that you are trying to eat better is all that matters. Food is so good, why would we want to stop eating it? Some tricks that I have tried to do recently is be intuitive about my eating and drink more water. Whenever I have a meal, I make sure I drink water before and during it and also be aware of when I'm getting full. You want to make sure you stay hydrated, which helps to not be as hungry when you go to eat. Also with being intuitive, when you feel like you are getting full, just stop eating. You will thank yourself later when your stomach isn't full and you're not regretting that last piece of pizza. I also try to portion my food to a good serving, and then put the rest of the food away so that I don't have a choice to eat more.

Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE food. I am always down for Taco Bell or a 4 for $4 from Wendys, so it is okay to treat yourself every now and then, but with these tricks, I have come to see that it really helps with overeating.

5. Do You Really Need It?

Of course a big resolution is to work harder and be successful. We all want it, but it is hard to get. The bottom line is that we want money to buy clothes or a house or new phone, etc. Some of us are obsessed with buying shoes, some buy cars, some buy jewelry, but you have to really think at this moment...do you really need it? What do you need the most right now? Again, I do splurge here and there after I get paid or during good sales, but for the most part, I can control myself and how I spend my money. You really just need to keep in mind what your ultimate goal is and how are you going to get there.

If you really want to be successful, there are so many online courses and certificates, books, tests, applications, etc. that you can do in your free time to help you prep for your career. I even see my blog as a little side project to help me with what I want to do. There is also a Google Analytics certificate that I was thinking about getting, as well as taking course assessments on LinkedIn to help better my chances of getting a new job opportunity. If you ever have free time, search the internet to see if there are any opportunities to better your career opportunities, I’m sure theres a lot, and you’ll be one step closer to a successful career.

I hope this helps, and if you want to discuss any of these resolutions or your own fully, I would love to chat with you!

Happy (Early) New Year!

Xoxo,

Steph
